Menstrual Product Initiative
In the Summer Semester of 2021, the Student Government was made aware of the lack of availability of menstrual products on our campus. In July of the same year, Vice President Ishika Prakash and Senate Speaker Ammaar Mohammed met with IUPUI Student Government President, Julia Cilleruelo Fernandez del Moral. She paved the way for free menstrual products campus-wide at IUPUI. Utilizing her previous knowledge, they developed a plan to provide the same service to IU Northwest Students:
From October to November of the Fall 2021 semester SGA conducted a survey of three hundred and ninety-one IU Northwest Students to determine student perceptions of free menstrual products.
After the survey was conducted the Student Government passed a resolution affirming their support for free menstrual products on campus on December 1st, 2021. President Wolf and Vice President Prakash presented a detailed plan to the IU Northwest Council in December of 2021 and utilized their feedback to begin the implementation of their initiative. In fall 2022, President Mohammad and Vice President Fares executed the final implementation of products in the restrooms.
