The Board of Advisors Leadership Program is the premier leadership initiative of Indiana University Northwest. This leadership series connects select student members with the IUN Board of Advisors in a reciprocal, mutually enriching relationship.
While many college leadership programs link students with campus faculty, the Board of Advisors Leadership Program is unique in creating a partnership between student members and key community stakeholders, as represented by the Board of Advisors.
The program’s mission is to task each year’s cohort in identifying one campus or community challenge and define a strategic process of seeking solutions to that challenge. The program’s advisors will work closely with the cohort. The opportunities or challenges will change each academic year, creating a very fluid program. The challenges addressed will be of significant importance to the campus or community, which could include topics such as alumni engagement, environmental issues, student issues, philanthropy, or education outreach.
As a primary focus, the IU Northwest Board of Advisors will encourage student in the program to see the value and significance of community opportunities upon completion of their degree. Future program graduates will form an alumni group through the IU Alumni Association and/or IU Northwest Alumni Association to interact with current student members, creating a community of Board of Advisors Leadership Program alumni.
Membership in the Board of Advisors Leadership Program Board is a privilege for a select group of students. Candidates for membership will submit a cover letter, application, and two letters of recommendation, and the Selection Committee will choose the participants. The program accepts no more than 25 students.
The program requirements are holistic, as reflected in the student’s application and cover letter. The selection process will occur in spring for the following academic year. Applicants must be registered students of IU Northwest in good standing and must be at least a sophomore. Membership is open to full-time undergraduates. Members must be students for the entire school year (no December graduates).”

National Honor Society of Leadership and Success
Indiana University Northwest belongs to the National Society of Leadership & Success, a nationally recognized leadership program with over 200 member schools. Our chapter is named Sigma Alpha Pi. The NSLS offers a comprehensive but attainable program to busy IU Northwest students. Each year the Student Activities Office will select students who meet the criteria, and those students will receive in the mail a letter of invitation from the NSLS’ national office.
Student Governments Associations (SGA) principal mission is to represent the Students voice in the University affairs and encourage leadership by example. It serves as a liaison between Students and the Faculty and Staff by creating an involved relationship in the community. Through leadership and strong representation, SGA desires to create an environment for increase in student morale in academia, as well as personally and professionally.
