Your team will be assigned a classroom which will serve as your homeroom for the day. Use it as headquarters for the day. Please clean up the room at the end of the day. The gymnasium will have a section cordoned off for large items. Someone will be there at all times to make sure your items are safe.
Yes and no. Strictly speaking the maximum is 15. However, the Indiana Science Olympiad Committee agreed that additional students (alternates) could participate. These additional students are restricted to the trial events only. Additional students will be identified at registration.
Our goal is to offer all B and C events that count towards the team's overall standing. In most years, we offer three additional "trial" events in each division.
Refer to the event schedule (TBA)
If we do have events outdoors we persevere one way or another.
First, second and third place plaques will be awarded to both B and C. In some years, when enough teams have participated, have had A and AA divisions (based on school population) and thus two sets of plaques would be available.
For the IU Northwest Tournament on February 19, 2022, medals will be given to either the top four teams for each event.
Judges are given wide latitude how they will handle their event. Therefore their decision will usually be the last word. However, in the unusual situation where a coach insists on mediation there will be an Arbitration committee. There is an arbitration form that the coach must fill out and submit to the committee. The decision of this committee is final.
Feel free to contact the tournament director, Harold Olivey, at holivey@iun.edu.
All event sign-ups are being handled through Scilympiad.
The height is approximately 30 feet in the gymnasium.
The runners up B and C teams at the various regionals are invited to the Wild Card tournament which usually takes place in March. The top teams in the Wild Card tournament are invited to participate in the State Science Olympiad tournament. This tournament is not held every year.
For the 2022 tournament, it is unlikely we will divide schools by class size. In future tournaments, if there are enough schools competing, we may divide by class size but only for the purpose of team trophies.
We are working with our cafeteria to have them open on tournament day. Once a final decision is reached, we will update this FAQ.
