Indiana University Northwest announces new academic merit, need-based scholarships

Tuesday, October 18, 2022

College Goal Sunday takes place at IU Northwest from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 6.

Qualifying students can earn up to $4,000

Indiana University Northwest is proud to announce new academic merit and need-based scholarships.

These new awards, combined with PELL and State Aid, will help to reduce students’ need for academic loans.

Beginning now, the IU Northwest Office of Enrollment Management will award renewable scholarships—from $500 to $4,000 per year—to eligible new, incoming students who are admitted as full-time students to the Northwest campus by December 1, 2022. Enrolled students would begin their studies at IU Northwest at the start of the spring 2023 semester.

The new scholarships that are available to students is a result of the campus strategically restructuring the funds, therefore, increasing award amounts, and creating additional scholarships based on demonstrated need or academics.

“The value of an Indiana University Northwest education is priceless,” said Dorothy Frink, Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management. “IU Northwest offers the respected IU degree within reach—both in terms of proximity and cost. And, tuition is often less than one would think, even for Illinois residents, through programs like the Midwest Student Enrollment Award.”

Scholarship opportunities

With the new academic merit and need-based scholarships, students who earn at least six college credits from IU or IU Northwest while in high school are eligible for a dual credit scholarship of up to $500 annually. Additionally, students who opt out of the SAT or ACT can be considered for an academic scholarship of up to $1,000. And, students who are eligible for federal and state financial aid can receive up to $1,000.

The ability to offer an affordable, quality IU education has been made possible through numerous scholarships by philanthropic donors and now through these new merit and need-based scholarships, Frink added.

Additional assistance: College Goal Sunday

Graduating high school seniors and their families are invited to attend a Free Financial Aid Student Application (FAFSA) event, called College Goal Sunday, from 2- 4 p.m., Sunday, November 6 at IU Northwest.

Scholarships based on demonstrated financial need require the completion of the FAFSA by the priority deadline. At College Goal Sunday, financial aid professionals will be able to assist families in completing and filing the FAFSA application at no cost.
