IU Northwest's Department of Performing Arts open its 2022-23 season with "A Bright New Boise"

Thursday, September 22, 2022

Production, by Samuel D. Hunter, runs from October 6 - 15

Exploring the profound, yet universal themes of faith, family, and redemption, A Bright New Boise is set entirely within the confines of a dull break room of an arts and crafts store. The show is part of a theatrical season of plays, which broadly explore the human experience in imaginative and unexpected ways.

As part of this year’s season selection process, IU Northwest junior Max McClean noted that the characters in A Bright New Boise “seem to represent different viewpoints on life and religion”.

Though the play is set in Boise, Idaho, IU Northwest senior and cast member, Joe Bugajski believes the play will “resonate with local audiences” because many of the play’s themes may also be familiar to local residents.

Six performances of A Bright New Boise are October 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. and matinees on October 8 and 15 at 3 p.m. on the Theatre Northwest Mainstage at IU Northwest.

The spring 2023 semester’s production, Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, is a modern take on the fifteenth century morality play, Everyman. With Everybody, Jacobs-Jenkins infuses a story of profound reckoning with modern theatricality and humor. Both works explore faith and hope in the context of a complex world, addressing such profound issues with humor and irony.

A Bright New Boise is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, on behalf of Samuel French.

Tickets are $10 and are available through the departmental website, iun.edu/theatre or by calling 219-980-6810.
