Ryan DesCamp, a second-year student at Indiana University School of Medicine - Northwest - Gary, has accepted a position on the Wellness Committee of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine - Resident Student Association (AAEM-RSA).

The mission of this new committee is to coordinate wellness initiatives such as creating a national wellness curriculum and identifying unwell residents and students across the country. Additionally, the committee aims to study the root causes of burnout and promote wellness and longevity in Emergency Medicine providers.

DesCamp feels especially drawn to this committee because of his experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), his interest in Emergency Medicine as a future career, and also his dual MD/MPH degree concentrating in Social and Behavioral Sciences. 

Student Doctor DesCamp also has soon to be published manuscript focusing on physician burnout in medicine that he co-authored with Ernest Talarico, Jr., Ph.D., entitled, "Provider Burnout and Resilience of the Healthcare Team." The article was published in the December 2016 edition of the Journal of Family Medicine and Community Health.
