IU Northwest co-sponsors Suicide Prevention Conference Nov. 9
Panel discussion to center on recovery, support, prevention, intervention

The Indiana University Northwest Wellness Team and the Northwest Indiana Suicide Prevention Council are sponsoring this year’s “Faces of Suicide” conference from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday Nov. 9 in the John W. Anderson Library Conference Center.
The conference’s focus will be “Suicide and Substance Abuse - A Life Saving Journey” presented by keynote speaker Leland Stephen (Director of Services for Adults with Serious Mental Illness for Community Health Network in Indianapolis). Additionally, Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura (Lake County Juvenile Court) will discuss youth suicide and the court perspective; and Britta Neinast (Family Concern Counseling) will speak about ways to support suicide survivors, those who have lost a loved one to suicide.
A discussion panel including Jim Berman (Recovery Matters – Regional Mental Health), Kim Frank (Franciscan Adolescent Treatment), Dr. Ron Ruff (Lake County Juvenile Court), Britta Neinast, Jane Bisbee (Indiana Department of Child Services), and Eric Evans (Prevention Services of Geminus Corporation) will discuss and take questions about suicide prevention when substances are involved, the court’s perspective on youth suicide and ways to support suicide survivors.
Additionally, the afternoon panel will consist of Dr. Jill Miller (Northwest Psychological Services), Dr. Scott Siegall (Regional Mental Health Center) and Ronald Williams (Edgewater Systems for Balance Living) who will discuss suicide assessment, intervention and support for individuals in long term recovery.

Registration is $30 for students and $60 for all others. The fee includes a continental breakfast, boxed lunch, handouts, and a Professional Continuing Education Unit (CEU) certificate. Registration is due November 2 (late registrations may be accepted if space available).
