Topics concerning residents of the Glen Park neighborhood, as well as issues that affect all citizens of Gary will be up for discussion when Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson leads the monthly Indiana University Northwest Glen Park Conversations. 

The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19 on the second floor of the IU Northwest Library located in the John W. Anderson Library Conference Center. 

Freeman-Wilson will share information about city happenings, as well as shed light on things currently being planned in the city of Gary. 

A special performance by local community choir, The Voices of Love, will follow. The 70-plus member choir directed by Patrice Mack is composed of voices from 15 different churches throughout Northwest Indiana, Crete, Ill. and Chicago.  The group united in October 2011 to bring beautiful music to the area, and to bring unity and harmony to the city of Gary. 

The group has performed at numerous engagements, including the inauguration of Mayor Freeman-Wilson, a Gary city-wide Black History Month program at Van Buren Baptist Church, and recently at a Pre-Mother’s Day concert at First A.M.E. Church in Gary. 

The Glen Park neighborhood works to enrich the quality of life for its residents through employment prospects, educational opportunities and projects that will strengthen the foundation of the community.  

As the IU Northwest campus is located in Glen Park, the conversation series has become an excellent opportunity for the university to facilitate communication between residents and city leaders, both in the public and private sectors.

Each month, a different guest leads the discussion, which covers topics from government to business to social services. Garret Cope, Associate Professor of the Division of Continuing Studies, moderates the sessions and provides interesting and thought-provoking subjects for participants to discuss. 

The public is welcome and encouraged to participate. Attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a door prize.
