Modern Languages - COAS

Welcome to the IU Northwest Department of Modern Languages, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics

Welcome * Bienvenidos * Bienvenue * Wilkommen * Benvenuti

Knowledge of a second language is a vital and practical skill needed for many careers in business, education, social services, health care, and government in Northwest Indiana and beyond.

Through excellence in classroom teaching, active participation in research, and professional and community service, the Department of Modern Languages aims to equip students with foreign language skills and a positive cultural understanding in order to prepare them for graduate studies, employment, and effective participation in our culturally diverse society.

Program Highlights

As an integral part of the IU Northwest College of Arts and Sciences, our programs and courses enhance students' understanding of past and present human experience, broaden their awareness of peoples, places, and things on a more universal level, and compel them to think critically about linguistic and cultural norms.

Indiana University’s ample selection of study abroad programs allows students the opportunity to explore new environments and practice a second language more completely, using it in everyday life for an extended period of time.
