Monica joined the School of Public & Environmental Affairs (SPEA) in Fall 2011. Prior to her employment at IUN, Monica was an Assistant Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke, NC.
Monica holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. She also completed a 2-year Post-Doc at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN with the Military Family Research Institute (MFRI). Her research interests lie in social institutions (prisons, the military, and the family). She has developed research studies on incarceration, offender rehabilitation, and interpersonal violence/victimization. Her recent work was published in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, The Prison Journal, Victims & Offenders, and The Journal of Criminal Justice Education.
