You’re in the final stretch

You are close to the finish line, but there are just a few more steps to go.

From making sure you’re eligible to graduate to requesting accommodations for your guests, find everything you need to prepare for Commencement in our checklist below.

Be sure to complete these tasks early so you don’t miss any deadlines.

Check your eligibility

The first step in preparing for Commencement is to verify your eligibility for graduation with your school recorder.

Apply to graduate

Apply to graduate to ensure your name is printed in the program and you receive your diploma. If you applied on a previous date but did not graduate, you must reapply. Please note that different academic units have different deadlines to apply.

Check for record holds

Resolve any holds on your record, such as an unpaid bursar bill, that may impact the release of your diploma or transcripts. Search “record holds” at one.iu.edu.

Name and mailing address

Verify that the spelling and formatting of your degree name is correct. You can also update your gender, birthdate, and mailing address.

Rent your cap and gown

The IU custom gown rental for both Bachelor and Master degrees can be ordered from our partner Herff Jones. Order by April 5th to get the best price on your rental apparel. The final deadline is April 12th.

Attend GradFair

Check off several Commencement tasks at once by attending GradFair on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Anderson Library in room LC 105.

Accessibility Information

All student and guest seating at Commencement is ADA accessible. An ASL interpreter will be provided for the hearing impaired.
