Internships
The School of Business and Economics is continually building relationships with local employers – throughout northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland region – which creates opportunities for internships, career-related part-time positions and other opportunities to benefit our students.
The benefits of internships includes making students aware of the skills employers want, as it also provides them marketable work-world experiences. Internships also allows students to pursue their career interests and use their current skills in a professional environment. In addition, internships provide access to networks for building colleagues and mentors in a chosen career field.
A sample of where our students have interned recently includes:
- American Red Cross (Merrillville, IN) - Marketing/Events
- Baker Tilly International (Chicago, IL) - Accounting
- Food Bank of Northwest Indiana (Merrillville, IN) - Marketing
- IU Northwest: University Advancement (Gary, IN) - Marketing/Social Media
- Jack Gray Transport (Gary, IN) - Accounting
- Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (Portage, IN) - Finance
- RubinBrown CPA (Chicago, IL) - Accounting
- Speedway (Dyer, IN) - Operations
If you're interested in pursuing an internship as a part of your educational experience within the School of Business and Economics, it’s important that you first arrange an appointment with the director of student success, engagement & career development to discuss your career goals, as well as strategies for finding and applying to available internships.
It may be possible to get academic credit for your internship, if you are a junior or senior-level business student. If credit is possible, there would be additional steps in the process, including securing a School of Business and Economics professor in the academic area appropriate to the internship experience.
