Greetings from the Dean
Welcome to the School of Business and Economics! As part of the Indiana University System, we serve the Northwest Indiana region. You can be assured of a quality education because we are accredited by AACSB International, the premier accrediting agency for business schools. We invite you to meet our students, faculty, and staff, and encourage you to explore our programs which extend beyond the classroom.
One of the qualities that set us apart from other programs in the region is our focus on Teamwork, Leadership and Technology. Not only will you learn fundamental business principles, but you will also gain the skills to become an effective critical thinker, leader and team member, all of which are necessary for your success in the world of business. We believe that one of the best ways to learn is through experience and our programs provide wonderful opportunities for you to work in teams, experience business simulations, pursue internships, study abroad, consult with small businesses, perform research with faculty members, or work on community service projects. We have a dynamic trading floor which brings to life the world of financial markets. Our VITA program is a tax preparation service that our accounting students provide to low income residents and seniors. We also have very active student organizations including Beta Gamma Sigma, our business honor society. Our MBA program is routinely recognized as best in the region.
Our faculty are dedicated to teaching and are good at it. They have won several awards recognizing their accomplishments. They are also committed to the growth and economic development of Northwest Indiana and have undertaken many projects to enhance organizational or municipal effectiveness. Projects have included the development of economic indicators, marketing strategies, and management training. In many cases, students are able to work on real world projects as they learn business fundamentals. Our faculty are also accomplished scholars who regularly present their research at conferences as well as publish articles, chapters and books on topics related to their field.
As you move through the program, we will help you prepare for the next step in your career by offering opportunities such as the personal assessment program, networking events with local businesses and alumni, and internships. In many cases, internships or networking events lead to the first job. There are great career opportunities right in this region.
I encourage you to explore our website or stop by for a visit. You can even follow us on Facebook. I would love for you to become a RedHawk and experience an excellent education right in our region!
