COVID 19 Provisional Accommodations
You may request a change to course schedules or to the method of course instruction due to a COVID-19 related issue.
All COVID-19 related accommodations are provisional, meaning that they are granted at the discretion of the instructor, and will be reviewed and implemented on a case-by-case basis. Requests must be reasonable and the integrity of the course and student learning cannot be compromised. Medical documentation may be requested.
The Accessibility Services Coordinator (ASC) will document all COVID-19 related requests for accommodations and the outcomes of those requests.
To request a COVID-19 related accommodation, you must take the following steps:
Consult with the instructor to see if an accommodation is possible.
If not, continue to Step 2.
If the request is granted, fill out the form. No further action is needed.
Contact your academic advisor to see if there is another available course or method of instruction that will fulfill your request.
If not, continue to Step 3.
If you are able to switch, fill out the form. No further action is needed.
E-mail Freda Cox-Harris, Accessibility Services Coordinator, at fjcoxhar@iun.edu to schedule an appointment.
Prior to your appointment, complete the form
Ms. Cox-Harris will consult with the instructor and advisors to determine whether your request can be accommodated and communicate the outcome to you.
IMPORTANT: If you are not comfortable discussing your concern with your instructor and/or advisor, go directly to step 3.
Accessibility and Accommodations
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ASC assesses accommodations for students with disabilities based on documentation from a medical professional. Review of documentation may take 3-4 weeks; hence, students should submit documents to the Accessibility Services Coordinator in a timely manner. As part of the interactive process, accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis following review of the medical documentation and a meeting with the ASC.
It is the responsibility of the student seeking accommodations to meet with the ASC within the first few weeks of the semester. During the meeting with the Coordinator, the student’s instructors will receive accommodation letters and the student will receive direction on how to discuss the accommodations with their instructors. Although a student is approved for accommodations, they are required to meet with the Coordinator each semester to implement their accommodations. Accommodations are not retroactive; hence, students must be attentive to arranging to meet with their professors at the start of each semester and discuss implementation of accommodations.
