The Men's and Women's cross country teams competed at the Benedictine Eagle Invitation Friday afternoon in Lisle, IL. The men's team placed 8th out of 21 teams in its first ever competition. Joe Elizondo lead the way with a 40th place finish and Miguel Rodriguez followed close behind in 43rd. Victor Del Toro (57th), Martin Perez (76th), and John Torabi (93rd) rounded out the scoring. Christina Blackwell paced the women's team with a 28th place finish and Emily Kirk finished in 62nd.
"It was a solid effort for us today," Coach Taylor stated, "for a group of people that didn't even know they would be running on a team until 6 weeks ago and with only 5 weeks of running under their belts at best we did alright. Victor hasn't even raced in over 2 years. I was very pleased at how hard they competed. We fought hard in tough conditions.
We are not very fit right now, but we're making progress. It's back to work and start preparing for the NIRCA regional and national races."
The NIRCA Midwest Regional Championships are in Muncie, IN on October 20th. The NIRCA National Championships are in Bloomington, IN on November 3rd. |
