October 20, 2007
Saturday, October 20 proved to be a banner day for the RedHawks'
Harriers at the NIRCA Midwest Regional meet held at Cardinal Hills Golf Course hosted by Ball State University in Muncie, IN.
Christina Blackwell started the day for the team with a 10th place finish and was followed by Emily Kirk in 15th place. Both athletes shattered their previous personal best for 6k. "Christina ran well, she's starting to show some fitness again, " said a happy Coach Taylor, "It's going to take some time for her to learn how to race again, and especially for 6k, but without a doubt, we are moving in the right direction. I can't say enough about the progress Emily has made. She started with us late, and only has a few weeks of training under her belt. Her potenital is still really unknown, but it is definitely high."
On the men's side, Victor Del Toro led the RedHawks to a 5th place team finish, in 23rd place. He was followed closely by Jose Elizondo, 27th, and Miguel Rodriguez, 30th. John Torabi had a career day finishing in 50th place and Martin Perez was the team's final scorer in 57th.
The men matched the women with personal bests of their own. "5 more PR's. It's nice to see. Our first 8k race, all of these guys just looked like they were surviving out there. Today they raced. We still have such a long way to go, but their potential as a group is starting to show. Victor ran such a nice race, and finished it off. He's going to be very good with some consistent training. Jose and Miguel both ran smart, but definitely have more in them. John really came to race today, he's had a tough past month and earned this one. Martin sort of struggled after going out a little over his head, but he's young and learning.
I'm looking forward to November 3rd." Indiana Northwest's cross country teams will travel to Bloomington for the NIRCA National Championships on November 3rd, 2007. |
