Overview The Women's and Gender Studies at IU Northwest is an interdisciplinary academic program focusing on the status and experiences of women in society. Courses for the program are drawn from across the entire campus: History, Literature, Modern Languages, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Communication, Minority Studies, and Labor Studies. The Women's and Gender Studies goals are to celebrate the work and contributions of women, to analyze the experiences of women, and to examine the social and cultural systems by which the status of women is determined. At IU Northwest, the most diverse of all the IU campuses, we focus on the experiences of women in bi- and multi-cultural settings: African-American women, Hispanic women, Asian women, and Caucasian women coming from an array of ethnic backgrounds. Our region and our students provide the program with a rich source of ideas, experiences, and cultures from which to understand the many ways of growing up female in America. |
