Installing WS_FTP Instructions
Download ws_ftp client for unsecured connection ![]()
- click on the hypertext link above to download ws_ftp
- When a dialog box comes up, select save file to disk or ok to save file to disk or save to your computer
- Check your save as window to be sure the save in area is at the C: drive.
If you have a download directory or folder then open it. (If you do not have a download directory make one by right clicking with your mouse in the white area to the right of the folder names. Left click on new and left click on folder. This gives you a new folder. With the cursor in the folder name area, change new folder name to download.)- Open download folder so that it appears in the save in location at the top of the window.
- Make a new directory by right clicking with your mouse in the white area below the save in downward area and to the right of the folder names. Left click on new and left click on folder. This gives you a new folder. Change new folder name to ftp.
- Open ftp folder so that it appears in the save in location at the top of the window.
- Click on save to save the ws_ftp.zip to the download/ftp directory.
- Back on the FTP page, scroll to click here for WinZip shareware link
- click on the hypertext link WinZip
- This time you should return to the download /ftp folder automatically, so just click save.
Installing Downloaded Files
- Minimize your browser so you can use it later to see the files you transfer.
- Right-Click on the Start button on the Start Bar.
- Click on Explore to open Windows Explorer.
- In the left-hand column, click on the + next to the download folder to see folders below that level.
- In the left-hand column, click on the ftp folder.
- In the right-hand column, double-click on the winzip95 or winzip95.exe file to open it.
- You will get a dialog box WinZip Setup. Click the setup button to install.
- You will get another dialog box asking what folder to go in. Accept the c:\Program Files\WinZip location by clicking ok. WinZip will then continue the installing of the software.
- A setup box will appear. Click next.
- Click Yes to agree to the license.
- Click on the radio button to Start With WinZip Classic and click next.
- Click next to use Express Setup
You will briefly see WinZip window with icons and then you will return to the setup box. Click finish.- A WinZip window will appear.
- Click Open
- As before with the save as window, you will need to have (C:) in the look in: area. To do this, click on the arrow to the right of the white area at the look-in area. This will give you a list of directories and folders you have available. Click on (C:) drive so (C:) will be in the look-in area. Double click on the Download folder to open it. And double click on the ftp folder to open it. You will then see the ws_ftp32 file. Double-click to open it.
- You will then be back in the WinZip window with the ws_ftp32 file listed.
- Click on ws_ftp32 file displayed to highlight it and then click on the extract button.
- You will get an Extract dialog box. Accept the default Extract to: c:\download\ftp location by clicking on the Extract button there will be no visible indication that it is done, but continue. (If you watch carefully at the bottom of the window in the grey area, it will have a progress bar that quickly flashes.)
Close the WinZip window when it is done extracting.- Close the WinZip window with icons in it so you return to the Exploring Window. You will now see a file with a blue Ftp in front of it. Double click to start installing the we_ftp32 program.
- At the WS_FTP install window, Click continue to install the WS_FTP le
- Select student, faculty member or staff member by clicking on the radio button and click the next button.
- Select the location by clicking next to at school and purpose for academic work. Then click next
- Accept the license.
- OK the C:\program Files\WS_FTP destination directory.
- > (Notice: only change from default settings besides e-mail address) Change the
preferred local destination directory for transfers to: C:\download by pressing on the browse button and double clicking on the C: drive and double clicking on the download directory or folder and click OK. - A the window that explains the many anonymous FTP sites require your e-mail address as your password. Please enter your full e-mail address, put your e-mail address in the box...ex. username@iun.edu
- Accept the WS_FTP for the Program Manager Group by clicking ok.
- OK the Congratulations box.
- If you choose, at the WS_FTP window, hold down the control key and drag the blue WS_FTP95 LE shortcut to your desktop for easy access. (You will see a + under the arrow indicating it is making a copy (+ plus for extra))
- Close all open windows.
Setup screens for FTP and Telnet
