Personal Web Accounts
All IU Northwest faculty, staff and students are able to have personal home pages at
http://mypage.iu.edu/~username/
The Steel Cluster, unveiled in March 2003, has reached the end of its hardware life cycle. UITS will retire the Steel Cluster on June 23, 2008. Mypage services currently on Steel will move to a new platform on the Mercury server.

Setting up Personal Web pages
Quick Start for mypage Personal Web Pages
- Using Mercury Information
- Use PuTTY and / or WinSCP (SFTP) to your mercury.uits.indiana.edu account
- Type your mercury (web account) password when requested:
- Type your username at Login:
- Type your Mercury password at password:
Using WinSCP (SFTP) File Transfer Client to put files on the web
You must use WinSCP (SFTP) client to transfer files to mercury (personal
web pages - mypage.iu.edu) or to telnet to the mercury server.
- Set up WinSCP (SFTP) Transfer Client to transfer web pages to and from the web.
- Initially, you will copy the home.html page locally (make a directory called your username on your local hard drive and transfer home.html locally to edit).
- Make changes locally to the files then ftp them to the web.
Note: If you want to be included in the Directory of Personal Home Pages and indexed by the IU Search Engine, your main web page must be called home.html. If you do not want to be listed in the directory, we suggest naming your primary page index.html, index.htm, or home.htm . If you have a home.html file, after one day, check to see that your username appears in the Directory of Personal Home Pages at http://www.indiana.edu/~hyplan/hyplans.html.
- Use WinSCP (SFTP) File Transfer Client to ftp the local files to the web.
- View your pages from a browser by typing: http://mypage.iu.edu/~username/
- See that your name is on the directory of Personal Pages at: http://www.indiana.edu/~hyplan/
Note: The new web account files are uploaded to the server
- at 5:00AM, 11:00AM, so your page won't be displayed until after one
of these times. It will take 1 day for your new page listing to appear
in the directory!
