Network Fileservice

The IU Northwest IT Technical Services Team provides network based file storage for current faculty, and staff.  Members of an IU Northwest academic department or of an administrative unit may request a departmental folder. The purpose of a departmental folder is to allow members of a department to securely store university business related files while allowing for sharing of these files among other members of their department. Cross departmental folders may also be requested. Any current faculty or staff may further request a private “home” folder on the IT fileservers. The purpose of a “home” directory is to store university related files that are not or should not be shared with others at the university.

Both the departmental and the home directories will be automatically mapped on a user’s university owned ADS desktop PC. To check for the existence of a departmental or home folder, the ADS logged in user may click on the “My Computer” icon on their desktop and look for the Departments (S: ) and/or for Home (H: ) icons. Clicking on these icons will open a list of departmental folders or the user’s home folder. To request access to a departmental or home folder, or to report a problem accessing a network folder, please contact the IT Helpdesk at x 4357.

The files on the IUN IT fileservers are backed up nightly. Please see the section on Backup of Fileserver data for more information.
