Introductory Computer Training Workshops
Windows: Basic Computing Skills
Intended for users who are new to computing or want to enhance their basic computing skills. Participants will get a general introduction to how computers work, learn basic topics such as using the mouse and command menus, and learn how to perform basic application tasks in Windows.
Participants will:
- Gain a basic understanding of computer components
- Work with windows, toolbars and command menus
- perform basic word processing and graphic tasks
- explore Web browsing basics
- save, copy and organize your work
Participants should already be able to:
- No computing skills are required.
Word Processing: Basic Skills
This workshop introduces basic word processing skills such as adding and formatting text, saving files and editing content. It is intended for participants who are new to word-processing. Although Microsoft Word is used for the hands-on exercises, the skills covered will translate well into the use of other modern word-processing applications.

Participants will:
- compose and edit documents
- add basic text formatting
- move and copy text
- name and save documents
- use the Help feature
- check spelling and grammar
- print documents
Participants should already be able to:
- use the mouse
- recognize icons
- open and close windows
- access drop down menus from the Menu bar
