Members Present: J.J. Cox, Sarah Felter, Bryan Norkus, Rebecca Turpin, Sydney Barrows, Christie Moreland, Rachel Testi, Rudy Herrera, Dan Grabarek, Jeremy Cox, Monica Deven

Members Absent:

Call to order: Paulette called the meetings to order at 11:35 AM on Wed. and 12:05 PM on Thurs.

I. Old Business

  • A. Gift wrapping
    • 1. went well; the money we earned was put toward purchasing Christmas items for the 2 families we are “adopting”
  • B. “Adopt a Family” for Christmas
    • 1. club purchased gifts for the children of 2 different families. (there was a total of 6 boys)
    • 2. The club raised around $420, so we spent about $70 on each child
  • C. Executive Council
    • 1. Sydney Barrows was the student representative from IU Northwest and attended the Executive Council with Paulette in Indianapolis

II. New Business

  • A. Red Hawk Debate Tournament
    • 1. High School Tournament
    • 2. Need volunteers to greet people
    • 3. This Saturday, Jan. 19 @ 7AM
  • B. 2008 Youth Summit
    • 1. Friday, Feb. 8 in Savanah Center
    • 2. need volunteers to direct people from 8-9 AM
    • 3. contact Paulette is you would like to volunteer
  • C. Hoosiers for Higher Education
    • 1. Wednesday, Feb. 13
    • 2. all day event in Indianapolis
    • 3. if interested in attending, contact Paulette
    • 4. a student representative from IU Northwest will be chosen to give a 3-5 minute speech on why it’s important to be civically involved in the community. If seriously interested contact Paulette immediately.
  • D. Etiquette Dinner
    • 1. Wednesday, Feb. 27
    • 2. 6-8 P.M. in Library Conference Center
    • 3. limited spots available, if interested contact Paulette ASAP
  • E. Nursing Alumni Reunion / Openhouse
    • 1. Monday, March 3 from 4-7 P.M.
    • 2. need about 2 volunteers to help welcome & direct people
  • F. IU Cares
    • 1. Saturday, April 19
    • 2. statewide volunteer project focusing on literacy
    • 3. will be collecting books at various locations, which are TBA
    • 4. need volunteers to help collect books from book drop off locations
  • H. LeaderShape
    • 1. leadership conference- great opportunity & great on resumes
    • 2. paid for by SAA
    • 3. new dates TBA—sometime in May or possibly August
    • 4. contact Paulette if interested in attending
  • I. Grad Fest
    • 1. Thursday, Feb. 7
    • 2. Savannah Center Lobby from 1-7
    • 3. seniors prepare for graduation (order caps / gowns, etc.)
    • 4. need volunteers to help Paulette at booth
  • J. Academic College Experience (ACE)
    • 1. Friday, Feb. 29
    • 2. service to students & community
    • 3. need volunteers to direct & check people in from 8-9 AM
  • K. IU Northwest Openhosue
    • 1. Wed. April 2, 4:30-6:30
    • 2. need volunteers to help greet/direct people and give tours
  • L. Martin Luther King Day Celebration
    • 1. Tamarak Hall Theatre

III. Fundraising Ideas

  • A. Candy Bars
    • 1. sell box of candy bars for $1 each
    • 2. boxes are in Paulette’s office for members to pick up starting Tuesday
  • B. Carson’s Day Coupons
    • 1. club decided against doing this fundraiser again

**Note: AAA is sponsoring a Roadside Emergency Day
