Graduate Certificate Program in Environmental Affairs

SPEA's Certificate in Environmental Affairs

Academic Features:
The graduate-level certificate would be a 5-course, 15 credit hour program of the IU Northwest Division of Public and Environmental Affairs and Political Science.  It provides a focused program of study in environmental affairs.

Certificate requirements are as follows:

  • V517 Public Management Economics
  • V520 Environmental Policy
  • V645 Environmental Law (now offered as V550)

Two additional SPEA graduate public affairs courses are also required.

Among the suggested selections available:

  • V550 Environmental Planning
  • V550 Environmental Crime

Program Special Features:
The program is flexible enough to adapt to the needs of the pre-career or in-service person and the individuals that desire a formal introduction to environmental law, policy and economics issues.  Credit in the certificate program is applicable to the Master of Public Affairs degree program, upon admission. The certificate would enhance the experience of individuals currently employed in industry, non-profit organizations and the public sector by providing them with economic, policy and legal insight on critical environmental issues.  It would also assist in the professional preparation of individuals seeking professional employment in occupations facing environmental policy concerns.

Faculty Features:
You will learn from an outstanding faculty with strong teaching and research experience.  The faculty is committed to preparing individuals who will make a difference.  The certificate would provide them with the background in all three areas and may stimulate them to pursue a Master of Public Affairs.

Accreditation Held:
In addition to campus accreditation, the Division of Public & Environmental Affairs and Political Science is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA).
