Gary and Joe's Excellent Bicycle Adventure

Day 6 - Winslow, Arizona

Gary's Journal - Day 6

Hello Everyone,

As I mentioned yesterday, I know you haven't received anything because we are having trouble with our phone.  We will have it fixed soon.  Today was a great day for riding.  We left early and the weather was cool.  Another jacket and gloves day.  Again we were on the enterstate highway.  It is faster but the trucks scare you to death.  There was alot of hills.  We rose over a thousand feet.  We were beat when we arrived at Gallup, NM.  It was a pleasure to get out of Arizona.  four days was three days too many.  If I come back, I will be in a plane.  The scenery was beautiful.  We had another first today.  We were to meet dion at the New Mexico state line to video our arrival.  We were there but not dion.  He had parked on an exit ramp and did not see us go by.  He waited.  We arrived and no dion.  We waited forever.  A young couple traveling from coast to coast stopped to take a picture of the welcome sign and was nice enough to take a picture of us.  It was not video but whatever.  After a couple of hours, we finally went on and dion finally caught up with us and brought us to the motel.  We are running about four hours late because of the mixup so I will sign off.

gary, joe, and dion
ps  we really will catch up with the email we miss everyone but are not ready to come back, yet!!!!!

The highlight of our trip was arriving at Winslow, Arizona.(see attached)  As you know the Eagles made it famous with the line in one of their songs "standing on the corner in Winslow Arizone, what a lovely site to see, it's a girl my lord in a flatbed ford, slowing down to take a look at me". Well, we stood on the corner in Winslow Arizona.  they have it setup with a statute of one of the eagles, a large muriel of a girl in a flatbed ford, and Eagles music playing all the time.  We took lots of pictures.

Some interesting Winslow, Arizona links:
