Gary and Joe's Excellent Bicycle Adventure

Day 4 - Wickenburg, Arizona

Gary's Journal - Day 4

Hello Everyone,

First, thanks for the emails.  we really have not had time to answer all of them but we are getting around to it.  We have been having trouble with our mobile phone we use to send the emails.  We don't know how many you have received.  Today was a real shocker.  When we got up and walked outside, we didn't
know where we were.  It was cold.  We had to wear a long sleeve shirt and a jacket with gloves.  go figure.  over one hundred degrees two or so days and then needing a coat.  This was the roughest day yet.  We went up hill from the parking lot of our motel.  It was cold and very windy.  At about 20 miles we reached a hill that rose several thousand feet.  Joe didn't want to tackle it but i was a fool and tried.  I did it but may have burned out my legs for several days.  can we say dumb!!!!! I have never been very smart.  It happened again.  Joe had a flat again and had two more trying to fix the first one.  We had to find dion and get anew set of wheels.  we rode on and came to the biggest mountain on our trip so far.  There was no way we were going to kill ourself on this one..  It was difficult to drive over, let alone bike over.  We knew there would be days  we couldn't finish but we have too far to go to hurt ourself trying to climb every mountain.  We called it a day.  we found a bike shop and had the bikes worked on.  on day three, dion wanted to ride so we tryed to set up a bike for him.  we had to change the pedals and could only get one off.  he had to ride with two different pedals.  it didn't work to well so we took the bike to a shop to be fixed.  he now can ride when he wants to.  we saw several beautiful ranches.  You would not believe what they have to do to get water!  I will close for now.  it has been a real bummer.  we will not have to be told to go to bed.
