Gary's Journal - Day 25
Hello Everyone,
This is the biggest day of the trip. We are about 90 miles
from the ocean.
The day is perfect. Warm weather, no wind, and
flat roads. We leave early because they are talking about possible rain. The
roads are flat with no hills at all. We average about 18 mph.
There is only one thing that spoils the whole trip. I have carried
my digital camera the whole trip in a small pouch on the bike. I
was approaching a bridge and hit a large hole. The shock knocked
the camera out of the pouch and onto the road. There was a truck
right behind me and before I could recover it, the camera was destroyed.
I was able to save the disk with the pictures. The camera cost around
$700.00 when I got it. Besides the cost, I was not able to document the
finish of the trip the way I wanted to. The camera was a very important
part of our trip. I was able to take afew pictures with the video
camera which is also a digital camera but it was not the same.
We arrived in Charleston and checked into our motel first.
After getting set up, we left for the beach. We arrived and were
surprised at how beautiful the city was. We went to the beach but were
not able to reach the water. We took our pictures from the dock.
We did a little sight seeing and then left for the motel. I forgot
to mention that joe's daughter met us at the motel. She is a federal
agent stationed in D.C. She drove down for our
arrival. We will do some serious sightseeing tomorrow. Lisa
is taking us out to dinner. We went to a place called Buddy Gump, a great
little sea food eatery. All in all, it was a great day, if you forget
the camera lost. The bright side of the incident, I could have blown
out a tire and crashed. The truck would have hit me instead of the
camera. Go figure!!!. We will visit tomorrow and then on Sunday,
we must ride again. We must make-up the 100 miles we missed at Atlanta
because of the storm. Will write tomorrow.
