Day 24 -
Bamberg, South Carolina
| Gary's Journal - Day
24
Greetings Everyone,
I greet you from Bamberg, South Carolina. I did
say South Carolina. Yes we made it to South Carolina. We still
have 80 miles to do tomorrow as we continue our drive to the sea but we
will do that even if we have to crawl. Today started on a high point.
We knew we would cross over into South Carolina so we were excited.
We needed to ride about 50 miles to reach the state line. We were
so excited that I agreed to let joe eat breakfast before we left.
The first 50 miles was uneventful. We reached Augustus, Ga. which is on the border between Georgia and South Carolina.
We crossed the river and saw the sign for South Carolina. We stopped and took our pictures and started on. All hell
broke loose. The road went straight up. We were greeted by
some of the biggest hills we have encountered on the trip. It was
not supposed to be this way. For the next twenty miles it was all
hills. We finally got out of the hills and arrived in Bamberg, South
Carolina, our destination for today. We did our admin work and went to
eat. We will watch a little of the basketball game and then hit the
sack. The whole trip comes down to tomorrow. We are expecting
bad weather but we really don't care. Tomorrow is the day we have
been looking for, for along time. The riding is still fun but there
is something about ending this little experiment. We are tired and
home sick, not to mention our sore butts. It is not something that
you really talk about but sitting on that little hard seat for eight hours
a day can not be described. I sit on a bag of ice at the end of each
day. It seems to help. We will close for now and hit the sack.
Wish us luck.
