Gary and Joe's Excellent Bicycle Adventure

Day 14 - Okemah, Oklahoma

Gary's Journal - Day 14

Hello Everyone,

We have completed our thirteenth day and arrived at Okeman,OK. Tomorrow is the big day.  Hopefully we will arrive in Fort Smith Ark., which is halfway on our trip.  We will take a well deserved rest for one day.  Today was another great day to take a ride.  Until the wind goes away or changes direction, I will not mention it.(please go away).  We rode to Oklahoma City to visit the Memorial Site.  Dion went to church.  We all called home to wish everyone a happy mothers day.  Joe and I arrived at the site and experienced something we never expected.  There are no words to describe what we saw.  I wish we could send all the pictures. Everyone should visit this site.  We heard a presentation by a park ranger stationed there.  I have never heard a more moving presentation in my life.  I was sad that we didn't record it.   The one thing that struck Joe and I was how quiet it was.

I will not try to describe  everything we saw.  The pictures and video will be available to everyone when we get back.  They have a chair placed where everyone who died was sitting when the explosion happened.  You really get the feeling of the empact of the explosion when you see all those chairs.  The most emotional part of the visit we experienced almost by accident.  We had completed the visit and were headed for the van when we saw a small fenced area tucked away in a corner.  As we passed it, we overheard a police officer explain that this was the playground used by the kindergarden  children who died in the explosion.  What kind of monster could do this?  We also saw the building that McVey's partner in crime was being held awaiting his state trial  for murder.  He didn't get the death penalty durring the federal trial but may get it at the state trial.  We had to leave and get down the road.  The rest of the ride was very quiet.  We arrived and after setting up, we when to dinner.  Will close for now.  Still can't forget what we experienced.
