| Gary's Journal - Day 1
Hello Dr. Evans ( and everyone),
When I send the emails, it is at the end of a very hard day and you
(or at least I) forget things.Just some thoughts about the trip so far.It
would be unbearable without all the technical equipment provided by Printek
and Tom Yeager. We have over twenty emails so far. . The friendliness of the people we have met.One very
large lady ( this is the way she described herself) who gave us direction
when we were lost (which is most of the time) wanted to give me a hug because
of what we were doing but she couldn't get out of her car.I leaned in the
window and hugged her and Joe was sitting across the street and didn't
know what was going on. He thought I had lost it.I called the local police
for directions and met the greatest person, Deputy Snodgrass. She not only
was very helpful, but gave a lot of motherly advise (don't stay in the
sun too long, drink lots of water, etc). She wanted to be added to our
email address so she could follow out progress. Welcome aboard, Deputy
Snodgrass.
Dion's coming on the trip was a godsend. We don't have to worry about
anything. He washed the van, changed the oil, washed our clothes, and is
just very helpful.Amelia, I hope he is this helpful at home!!!!We couldn't
make it without Chris and Jeff Yeager, Printek, at technical support in
St Joseph , Mich.I know they are getting sick of us (and we have just started)
but we thank them very much.It is very difficult to explain something to
someone over the phone thousands of miles away, especially if you don't
know what you are doing, even after the help. We are still getting up early
looking forward to the ride.I wonder how long we will do this?Lastly, it
is amazing how little people know about where they live. You can ask a simple
question, like is there a motel in town, and either they don't knowor can't
tell you where to find one.Go figure. It is time to close and get on the
bike.Wish us luck.
