The Department
of Sociology and Anthropology offers its curriculum to undergraduate
students to pursue the systematic study of society. Anthropology
offers a cross-cultural perspective and those courses can be used
as social and behavioral science electives.
At the junior/senior
level students may be eligible to enroll in independent study
courses:
- Individual Readings in Sociology (This provides a one-on-one
mentoring course for upper level students with specific research
interests beyond those offered in regular course work)
- the
Internship Program (Students go into the field to work in a variety
of social service agencies which enables them to link
theoretical knowledge they learned in previous courses with real
life experiences.
Students who have taken advantage of the internship program
have found that it facilitated their placement in employment after
graduation
as well as preparing many of them more thoroughly for
acceptance into the Master's
of Social Work Program also offered here
at Indiana University Northwest.)
