Sigma Gamma Rho's Epsilon chapter, which began in 1924, was organized
by Soror Homer Woods in the home of Soror Grace Smith. The Epsilon Chapter would
become the first African-American greek organization in the city of Gary, IN.
On June 6,1945, Episilon was renamed Alpha Sigma Sigma after the national
body established graduate chapters. Soror Mildred Page was Alpha Sigma Sigma's
local basileus. Today, Alpha Sigma Sigma, presided by Soror Dharathula "Dolly"
Hood-Harris, continues in the tradition of our motto
"Greater Service, Greater Progress"
