THE RULES

1) No live animals, plants, microbes,
etc. are allowed on display, either for the judging or the public

2) No
Chemicals
Dried plant materials, unless
sealed in acrylic or other similar material
Taxidermy specimens or parts
Preserved vertebrate or invertebrate
animals
Organisms, fungi, cultured
growths, spoiled food, or mold
Soil or waste samples
Containers filled with water
or any other liquid
Human or animal parts (except
that teeth, hair, nails, bones, histological sections, & wet-mount
tissue slides are allowed)
Human or animal food
Sharp items
Poisons, drugs, or controlled
substances
Dry ice or other sublimating
solids
Flames or highly flammable
materials
Tanks that have contained
combustible liquids or gases
Batteries with open top cells
Projects with moving parts
that have unprotected belts & pulleys
Class III & IV lasers
Operating high voltage electricity

are allowed on display, either
for the judging or the public. No "experiments/demonstrations" may
be done in front of the judges.

3) ALL projects
will require proper documentation. All documentation
forms may be copied from this web site.

4) All work done must be the students.
Credit must be given for anyone else whose work is referenced. Projects
that are carried forward from previous years must have substantial*
new work done on them during the year in which the project is displayed.
Each student may only submit one project.

*Substantial work is
defined as the amount of work necessary to put an entire new project together.
Cosmetic changes in the backboard or report does not constitute new work.
Minor modifications of the experiment does not constitute new work.

5) If non human vertebrate animals,
pathogenic agents, controlled substances, recombinant DNA, or human or
animal tissue are used as subjects in the experiment, the student
must have the permission of the local SRC Board.

6) If humans are asked any type
of questions, the student must have the permission of the IRB
Board

7) No bacteria or mold may be
grown at home. All potential pathogens must be grown in a facility properly
equipped for growing them. All samples taken from humans must be considered
potentially pathogenic.

8) All exhibits should be sturdily
constructed & self supporting. A place at a table is provided for all
entrants unless floor space has been requested on the registration form.
All electric wiring & switches must be of an approved, insulated type.
Electric cords are the responsibility of the exhibitor. Size limits are
122 cm (4 ft) wide, 76 cm (2.5 ft) deep & 274 cm(9ft) high.
