The Calumet Regional
Science Fair is open to all 5th-12th grade students enrolled in a public,
parochial, private, or home school in Lake County Indiana. Each High School
entering the Science Fair may send up to 10 projects. Each Junior High
School, Middle School or Elementary School may send up to 5 projects. School
systems having a district wide fair may aggregate the number of projects
and send that number of projects. They do not need to be distributed by
schools. If a school or district feels they have more projects that are
of Regional Fair quality, an appeal may
be made to the Calumet Regional Fair Board to petition for more projects
to be allowed.
The divisions of
the Calumet Regional Science Fair will be 5th Grade, 6th Grade, Junior
Division (7th-9th grades), and Senior Division (9th-12th grades). Students
in the 9th grade may choose to enter in either the Junior or Senior Division.
Senior Division participants are eligible to compete for the International
Science Fair trips as well as the Hoosier State Science Fair Trips. Junior
Division participants are only eligible to compete for the Hoosier State
Science Fair Trips.
All Science Fair
entry fees are $15.00 per person, not project. That includes group projects.
Students may only enter one project in the Regional Science Fair. The work
is to be done in the 12 months since the previous fair. If the project
is a continuation of a previous year's project, substantial new work must
have been added. Cosmetic changes to a previous year's project will not
be counted as substantial new work.
Students needing
electricity for their projects are responsible for bringing a 10 ft UL
approved extension cord that has no exposed wires or frayed areas.
