Welcome to the Critical Literacy Program (CLP)

Success in Higher Education

The Critical Literacy Program was designed to reinforce the basic skills needed to be successful college students. Courses focus on improving reading, critical thinking, writing and study skills. Students in the CLP are assigned to Guided Studies and are required to take three different reading courses as well as one writing course before enrolling in additional university courses. They must pass all 4 courses with a C+ or better before enrolling in additional university courses.

Criteria

Criteria for admittance to the Critical Literacy Program

Admittance to the CLP is based on the COMPASS Reading test scores.

Scores between 60 and 74 are admitted into the Critical Literacy Program. Program placements of students who score between 75 and 79 are based on a re-evaluation of their academic backgrounds with an admissions counselor. Students who score below 60 are referred to the REACH program. Students who score 80 and above on the COMPASS test are admitted directly into an academic program.
