Dr. Feldman retired in 1993 and is one of the grand old men of
IU Northwest. He started teaching at the university in Gary well
before there was an IU Northwest. The school was called IU in Gary and
classes were held in rented space in a Methodist church. He was one of
only 11 faculty during that first year. As the campus became
established and grew, Dr. Feldman served the campus in many
administrative roles including: Psychology Department Chair, Director
of Counseling and Records, Chairman (Dean) of the Division of Arts and
Sciences, Dean for Administration, and Acting Chancellor. Dr. Feldman
is also known for his teaching, winning the IU Northwest Teaching
Excellence Award in 1980 and the Student Council Silver Bowl
Outstanding Faculty Member Award in 1965. Dr. Feldman was also quite
involved in community service. He was awarded the W. George Pinnell
Award For Service to the University and Community in 1992 and the I.U.
Dons Distinguished Citizen Award in 1971. Dr. Feldman can still be
seen around the campus, continuing his contributions to the university
and the community.
