Financial Aid

Financial need is not necessarily a barrier to legal study. Scholarships, though limited, do exist. Low-interest loans and, on occasion, student assistantships help open the study of law to qualified students. For several years the legal profession and many law schools have been trying to increase the number of minority lawyers. The Council of Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO) is a national program designed to serve economically and educationally disadvantaged persons. Many individual law schools also have special programs for minority students. The Law Access Loan Program is a national loan-finding and loan consolidation program expressly for law students. The Career and Placement Services Office has information about these and other programs.  The Law School Forums, mentioned above, are also good sources for financial aid information.
