University Police Resources Welcome to Indiana University Northwest. This guide is designed to provide you with a brief overview of some programs Indiana University Northwest has developed to provide a safe, supportive environment. The effectiveness of any university safety program however is largely dependent upon the assistance of each and every member of the university community. Individuals, as members of the campus community are encouraged to play an active role in ensuring the safety of the Indiana University Northwest campus. As partners in this cooperative effort, we hope you feel a personal involvement in and responsibility for the reduction of minor as well as serious campus incidents. We urge you to take the time to review this information carefully. Indiana University Northwest, in compliance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, has published this web site to provide both the university's students and employees with an overview of the security resources on the Northwest campus as well as to inform the community of policies and procedures. Portions of this information are provided in compliance with Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 and the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1989. Campus crime statistics are reported on a monthly basis to the FBI Uniform Crime Report. The primary responsibility for law enforcement on the IU Northwest campus rests with the University Police. The University Police Department employs ten police officers who are fully commissioned by the State of Indiana and have the same authority as other law enforcement officers. The IUN officers work closely with other law enforcement agencies and all are graduates of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. In addition to the commissioned officers, the University Police Department also employs six civilians, and one cadet who assist in the enforcement of the University rules and regulations and in the safeguarding of the campus community and its facilities. The University Police Station, which is located in Tamarack Hall, is staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year with officers on-duty to assist you. University Police officers patrol the campus on foot, on bike and in patrol cars.
