Faculty, Staff & Student Remote Email and Internet Access

Introduction

Indiana University Northwest faculty, staff, and students may connect their personal computer(s) to the IU Northwest data network through analog telephone lines . IU Northwest remote computer access is a privilege designed for scholarly research and communications.

IU Northwest offers general installation guidelines.  If the personal computer is customized with other remote connection software -- lan, direct, Internet Service Provider -- the IU Northwest installation might interfere.  The personal computer owner assumes responsibility for modifications and damages attempting to access the IU Northwest network.

IU Northwest offers 10 dial-in ports for remote computer access.  Remote access connections negotiate between 300 and 33600 bits per second.  Connections are limited to 45 minutes per session with a 7 minute inactivity disconnect.

IU Northwest  Dial-In Candidates with established ISP Accounts

If you currently lease an Internet Service Provider account (AOL, NetNitco, Com Net, etc.) and need to access your IU Northwest email, you do not have to open an IU Northwest dial-in account.  Keep your ISP account active and connect to IU Northwest Webmail through your web browser.

You may still open an IU Northwest dial-in account but a conflict may occur between your current ISP and IU Northwest.

IU Northwest  Dial-In Candidates without ISP Accounts

Complete the IU Northwest Email Dial-In Application.  Account confirmation and installation instructions will be sent to your IU Northwest e-mail account in 1-5 business days.
