Visitor or Volunteer Parking

If you plan to visit IU Northwest, parking spaces are designed by the type of parking tag issued as shown on the IU Northwest parking map. Be sure to review the following so you are not in violation of parking regulations:

 

Visitors or volunteers to the campus for one or two days

  • Visitors or volunteer to the campus may obtain a free one day or two day student temporary permit from:

Office of Parking Services (Hawthorn Hall Room 102)

University Police (Tamarack Room 10),

Circulation Desk (Library )

  • There should not be a regular university affiliation such as faculty, staff or student for the individuals.
  • A student temporary permit will be issued which will allow parking in the student parking areas and will only be valid for one or two days. 
  • Visitors or volunteers may also park in a metered space and feed the meter
  • A university department can request a free one day or two day student temporary in advance for visitors/volunteers.  The unit must submit a request for the quantity of permits, date of visit, names and addresses of the individuals to the Office of Parking Services.
  • Parking fines will be the responsibility of the permit holder.
  • If a department requests 25 or more one day or two day student temporary permits, a charge of $1 a permit will be charged to the department. 

 

      Visitors or volunteers to the campus for more then two days

  • If a department requires a permit longer than one or two days for a visitor or volunteer then a monthly permit may be purchased by the department or individual at the following rate. 
    • $5.75 - monthly if on campus 20 or more hours per week
    • $2.90 - monthly if  on campus 20 hours per week
  • There should not be a regular university affiliation such as faculty, staff or student for the individuals.
  • Purchase is dependent on having no record of unpaid fees or fines in the Office of the Bursar and the Office of Parking Services.
  • A monthly parking permit will be provided which will allow parking in the student parking areas and will expire on the date provided by the unit who has requested issuance.
  • The department must submit a memo to the Office of Parking Services at least 3 business days prior to the date the permit(s) are needed.  The memo should include the quantity, the expiration date of the permit(s) requested and the departmental account number** to be charged. Each permit requested will be a charged separately.
  • If the visitor or volunteer is required to purchase the permit, then a memo from the department needs to be received by the Office of Parking Services before the purchase can be made.  The memo should include the name of the visitor/volunteer and the expiration date of the permit requested.
  • A replacement fee of $15 will be charged if the permit is lost and a replacement permit is requested. 
  • Parking fines will be the responsibility of the department.

 

  **General fund accounts can only be used to purchase parking permits for visitors or volunteers. 

The student temporary and monthly permits are not valid in faculty/staff, metered and reserved spaces and those spaces designated for University vehicles.  Those visitors who are physically challenged and need a handicapped parking tag can request a handicapped parking permit from the Office of the Bursar and Parking Services by calling (219) 980-6622 or by stopping by the office during normal office hours.
