The ODE is committed to education
about diversity issues. In collaboration with the IU Northwest
Library, a pool of literature and periodicals has been compiled to
lead the campus in developing its knowledge of diversity paradigms,
pedagogy and imperatives. This pool of literature is called the
Diversity Resource Library (DRL). The DRL was founded on the premise
that:
“Diversity management is
prerequisite for effective change and transferring of information.
Knowledge of people (cultural, psychological, spiritual, etc.) is
often absent when structural change is being implemented. People are
often more interested in their personal perceptions of others as
opposed to the personal realities of others and unfortunately pass
these values and stereotypes on to unsuspecting generations.” –
Coopwood, 2005
Since its establishment in 2004,
the DRL has grown to over 200 pieces of literature, videos and links
available for browsing and/or checkout. At the DRL , located in the
IU Northwest Library on the 1st floor adjacent to the
Library Café, you will find articles, books, magazines, even
link-flyers for help with research and stimulating cognitive
processes that are conducive to understanding and demonstrating the
value of diversity. The DRL is an on-going project designed for use
by the entire campus. Students and faculty alike are encouraged to
look here for challenging classroom assignments and search for new
ideas about how to introduce sensitive subjects in the classroom.
From law to learning or whatever diversity matter needing to be
addressed, the DRL is a growing jewel for the
IU Northwest
campus! The link below will take you directly to this wealth
of information. Go ahead, learn more about yourself and others!
