| The winds of change have blown in strategic directions
over the Indiana University Northwest (IUN) campus! Certainly the
greatest asset of a university is not its array of bricks and mortar
but the hearts and minds of its greater constituency. IU Northwest
is a great university because of the people who make up its family
of students, faculty, staff and friends. A sure measure of a great
family is the richness of diversity represented by respective
members. IU Northwest is excited to bring fresh perspectives and
initiatives to the diversity of its family and to greater Northwest
Indiana through a new office designed to educate, rejuvenate and
serve all IU Northwest constituents! |

The Office of Diversity & Equity
(ODE) began its development in Fall, 2003 under the leadership of
Dr. Ken Coopwood, Sr., a native of Gary, IN and proven servant
leader of diversity and equity initiatives. The ODE is charged with
forwarding the strides the IU system has made in expanding the
frontiers of diversity knowledge while bringing the citizens of IU
Northwest, the state, the nation and the world together in common
purpose. Dr. Coopwood, Sr. is poised to help enhance IU Northwest as
home for an extraordinarily diverse population of people from many
backgrounds, many countries, many cultures and many religions.

Together, the ODE staffs are
working to enhance the overall IU Northwest experience by providing
an appropriate array of education, diversity, awareness, mentoring
and equity programs and services. The ODE has already impacted the
IU Northwest Shared Vision by proving leadership for the development
of the IU Northwest shared definition of diversity
as a critical
component of academic excellence. We will continue to bring quality
ideas and concerns of constituents to the attention and action plan
for the future of IU Northwest. This is truly an exciting time for
IU Northwest as we take on a leadership role in Northwest. You are
invited to explore and sample the richness of opportunities for
learning, service and doing which IU Northwest offers.
