Student Retention Programs

Welcome to Student Retention Programs!

The Office of Student Retention Programs (SRP) gives students the opportunity to take an active role in their education through Supplemental Instruction (SI), the the LSAMP Grant, Critical Literacy and REACH.

Service Philosophy of Student Retention Programs

As members of a student-centered campus, we make the commitment to provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service and assistance in support of the University's Shared Vision, Values, and Strategic Outcomes.

  • Supplemental Instruction - Want to improve your grades and understand more about the course content? SI sessions are organized and led by SI leaders, students who have previously taken and excelled in the course. They participate in the class again then share their knowledge of the subject during the SI sessions, along with helping you learn how to apply course concepts and improve study skills.
  • Peer Mentor - Take an active role in your education by participating in a FREE program open to all CLP participants currently enrolled in EDUC-X151. Interested students can talk to the instructor or the mentor for that class. Sessions provide one-on-one or small group time with a student who has something in common with you.
  • Critical Literacy - The Critical Literacy program helps students improve on the basic skills needed for college success.
  • REACH is a collaborative academic assistance program between IU Northwest and IVY Tech, designed to support and prepare students for college-level study. Eligible students are referred by the Office of Admissions.
  • LSAMP - The National Science Foundation's (NSF) Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, is a program designed to substantially increase the quantity and quality of students, especially minorities, in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). LSAMp offers science and math majors the opportunity to receive a stipend for doing research in their major field. Students work with a faculty member on a research project, attend research conferences or field trips and present the project upon completion. The LSAMP Indiana Undergraduate Research Program is made possible by the generous support of the NSF.
