  • Received an AQIP update on projects completed and in process
  • Reviewed the new Mission statement approved by the campus last month

Two new members attended: Fred DeHaan and Kathryn Lantz. Consultant Lou Ann Daly and members of the cabinet facilitated the meeting. A special thanks goes to Kathy Malone who attended and provided terrific support and assistance to the team.

Review of 2005 Outcomes

As part of the strategic planning process, the campus identified 8 outcomes to be completed by December 31, 2005. The SPT reviewed progress to date on the 2005 outcomes and spent considerable time reviewing the remaining activities that need to be completed by the end of the year. Where needed, additional activities were added for clarification and timelines were adjusted. Outcomes 1, 2 and 6 were adjusted to in order to coordinate their timelines with the various campus constituents that will be asked to participate in the work of the outcomes.

Each Outcome team has done considerable work, and each is on schedule to complete all deliverables by the end of the year. The campus is moving in exciting directions and the Team encourages you to view each Outcome Status Report in detail. If you would like more detailed information on any of these outcomes, please contact the outcome chair or one of the committee members.

Information Technology Principles

The Team developed a set of principles to guide the campus Technology Council as they set out to create a long range campus technology plan this coming academic year. These principles will act as basic guidelines to ensure that our campus technology plan supports and promotes our campus vision.

AQIP Update

A brief summary of AQIP was presented to the team by Vice Chancellor Marilyn Vasquez. AQIP (Academic Quality Improvement Program) is the process the campus chose to maintain our accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission of NCA. AQIP is a continuous performance improvement process.

Vice Chancellor Vasquez distributed a draft AQIP institutional report. She pointed out that three of our current two-year AQIP projects are also Strategic Outcomes. They are:

Outcome #2 -- Academic programs and relevant support programs have identified criteria to assess student preparation for lifelong learning, ethical practices, developing successful careers, and effective citizenship.

Outcome #4 -- IU Northwest will be using a formalized process for recruiting, retaining and developing diverse faculty (FRAME) and will have developed a similar process for staff and administrators in support of academic excellence.

Outcome #7 -- All units will articulate and communicate a sustainable service philosophy that is aligned with the Student Centered Principles and will have developed ongoing individual and unit measurements that document the alignment.

Mission Differentiation

Chancellor Bergland presented the new campus mission statement to the Team. This is the same mission statement that the Chancellor shared with the campus in his June 10, 2005 memo. No other discussion about mission differentiation took place.

Next Meeting and Retreat

The next meeting of the Strategic Planning Team was held June 7, 2005. An update of that meeting will come out separately. The fall Strategic Planning Retreat will be held November 29, 30 and December 1. This retreat will serve as a transition, as the terms of 5 current team members will end in December. A number of new members will begin their terms with the November retreat.

If you have any questions or comments about our campus outcomes or the strategic planning process, please contact a Strategic Planning Team member, the chair of the specific outcome or one of the outcome committee members. We welcome your comments and participation.
