Outcome Number: 8
State Your Outcome: A plan for sustaining outreach in Newton County will be developed; a program activity in Starke County will be initiated; a needs assessment will be conducted in a third county for engagement; and an inventory of IU Northwest’s collaborative/cooperative activities in Lake, LaPorte, and Porter counties will be completed.
February 13, 2006 statement from Chancellor Bergland: This outcome focused on outreach to seven counties that included an inventory of collaborative work being done in Lake and Porter Counties, the completion of a needs assessment in Jasper County, the identification of a process for sustaining work in Newton County, and the initiation of program activity in Starke County. Jon Becker chaired this work and completed all aspects of the outcome. The work has been accepted with the Cabinet’s approval.

TJ Stoops contacted Starke County United Way. Lori Montalbano-Phelps is in contact with interested parties about women’s initiatives in Starke County. |
TJ has become IU Northwest’s representative on the Starke United “Parents as Teachers” team. The Office of Occupational Development has created a flyer for Starke United which is being distributed throughout Starke County to market the PAT program. Lori and TJ are encountering some of the same people in their communications with Starke, so they will work together to further IU Northwest’s presence there. |
