2005 Service Philosophy - College of Arts & Sciences
In support of the University’s Shared Vision, Values, and Strategic Outcomes, as well as our own mission and objectives, the College of Arts and Sciences faculty and staff are committed to developing long term positive relationships with our students by providing high quality student services. In striving to meet or exceed student expectations for service, the faculty and staff in the Dean’s office and in each academic department will:
- Treat students the way we wish to be treated ourselves.
We will provide a welcoming environment, and we will communicate effectively in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Pay attention to student needs.
We will listen carefully to students in order to understand and meet their needs.
- Respect individual viewpoints.
Our faculty and staff hear and respect all student viewpoints.
- Explain and follow academic policies.
We will know the COAS and campus policies and procedures that directly affect the student. We will ensure that those policies are properly implemented and followed by our offices.
- Be convenient for students.
The Dean’s office will keep convenient office hours:

- Monday / Thursday , 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
- Tuesday / Wednesday / Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Department offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In addition, we will make every effort to respond to student inquiries within 24 hours, either by phone or e-mail.
- Offer choices to students.
If a problem or concern should arise, our staff will offer viable alternatives for students to find resolutions.
