4/28/05   Develop a simple 1-2 page template for heads of Academic Programs and some Relevant Support Programs to complete, indicating how they already (or plan to) measure student preparation for “Lifelong Learning,” “Ethical Practices,” “Successful Careers,” and “Effective Citizenship.” Their measures may include accreditation evaluations, self-studies or program reviews, external nationally standardized field tests and credentialing examinations, student-graduation-employer surveys, Advisory Board input, etc. Seek common understanding and feedback on definitions, lists of programs, and possible national models/best practices appropriate to IU Northwest from the campus community by online survey, attendance at meetings of various campus groups, etc.   Outcome 2 Committee   Deans’ Council,Chairs’ Council, Faculty Organization General Education (or other appropriate) Committee, and appropriate Vice Chancellors to delegate collection and return information from their units  
5/19/05 Using data collected, devise sample assessment criteria that will promote student preparation for “Lifelong Learning,” “Ethical Practices,” “Successful Careers,” and “Effective Citizenship” campus wide. This may or may not be listed in Learning Objective form—“Thirty percent of graduating seniors will have volunteered…, received positive evaluations from their placement supervisors, and written major, graded papers connecting their experience to course concepts and to at least two of the campus general education goals.” E-portfolios, capstone courses, Freshman Seminars, credit for field trips, community informational interviews, academic exit interviews, diversity sensitivity exercises, connectivity courses, etc., may be ways to demonstrate learning. Stress principles more than specificity. The sample criteria should be sent and discussions should be held with key academic and relevant support program personnel.
