Truncated Business Meeting due to today's presentation on the basics of geodata by Jim Moening and Don Homan, of ESRI.

INGISI Report
Senate Bill 160 fell to the wayside due to unforeseen Senate activities at the end of February.  SB 160, was the first legislative attempt to fund statewide GIS coordination.  House Resolution 0051 was passed establishing a committee to investigate possible GIS funding sources.  The Indiana Geographic Information Systems Council (INGIC) has been asked to participate with this committee.

Administration
Meeting notes will be posted to the NWI GIS Forum website as soon as possible after meetings.

The membership list will be updated in the near future.  Messages will be sent to the mailing list shortly requesting an email reply from those wishing to be included/edited or removed from the website membership list.

EPA Grant Status
Work continues to create and post metadata to the Indiana GIS Data Clearinghouse.  Additional work creating metadata is anticipated.  In the near future, the NWI GIS Forum and the Indiana Geological Survey will be discussing the possibility of generalizing the Survey’s “in house” online metadata inventory form for our use.

Funding Subcommittee
The following subcommittee was formed to investigate funding for future GIS projects:  B. McKinley, T. Sutherland, K. Miller, C. Morris, M. Brown.  Potential sponsors for future funding are being investigated.  Becky requested that NWI GIS Forum members forward letters of support to her to be included in presentations to potential funders.

Economic Development Subcommittee Report
There has been no subcommittee activity since the last regular NWI GIS Forum meeting.

Workshop /Presentation Subcommittee
This committee (Becky, Betty, Lauren) will be meeting in the near future to discuss the next presentation (July).

Other Business
URISA has initiated a GIS certification program.  Information about how to apply for certification can be found at the following website.

The Indiana State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is offering free, hands-on, HAZUS-MH workshops (introductory and advanced) in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and South Bend this spring and summer.  We may be able to have a workshop in Northwest Indiana if there is sufficient interest expressed in our area.  Contact Becky mckinleyb@hmdin.com or Cele cmorris@iun.edu for more information.

 Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) is sponsoring a GIS Tools and Community Watershed Planning Workshop on May 25 – 26, 2004, at Purdue Univ. Calumet.  Information and registration form may be found at the following location

The Central Indiana ESRI User Group Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2004.  The day long meeting will start at 8:15 at the Indiana Government Center.  More information is located here.
