Radiography Program Mission Statement


The Associate Degree Radiography Program offered by Indiana University Northwest is designed to prepare students for professional careers as radiographers in the medical field. By providing pertinent learning experiences, the program faculty strives to develop students' interests in lifelong learning through the professional societies and continuing education. The curriculum is designed in accordance with the guidelines established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

The program accomplishes its mission through:

A fully qualified faculty

  • whose responsibilities are teaching, research, and service
  • who, as committed teachers, take responsibility for enhancing student learning.
  • who pursue research that contributes to the expansion of knowledge, enlivens their teaching, and gives form to their service to the community.

A fully accredited program

  • which is designed to produce radiographers who demonstrate clinical competence, effective communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills and the necessary professional values for success in their career.
  • which is designed to provide the medical community with individuals qualified to perform radiographic procedures.

A commitment to the improvement of the profession and community

  • through involvement in the continuing education and life long learning.
  • through faculty research, expertise and community involvement.

Upon successful completion of the requirements of the program, the student is awarded an Associate of Science degree in Radiography and is eligible to write the National Examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Graduates are also eligible for state certification in Indiana.

The Radiography Program shares with the other schools of the University the accreditation accorded Indiana University as a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The program meets the requirements outlined in the "Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in Radiologic Sciences" and is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, 20 N Wacker Drive, Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60606-2901. GOALS OF THE PROGRAM IN RADIOGRAPHY

The belief in the need for better educational opportunities in the changing health care profession of radiography is realized through our commitment to the education of radiographers in the community. With this rapidly changing profession, there comes a need for a constant review and revision of the Program to meet these changes. We believe this need can be met through the utilization of a fully qualified faculty and an effective Advisory Committee. With faith in the faculty and in the Advisory Committee, we set forth the following goals for the Program in Radiography:

1. To graduate radiographers who demonstrate:

a) Clinical competence,

b) Effective communication skills,

c) Critical thinking and problem solving skills,

d) and Professional values

2. To provide the medical community with individuals qualified to perform radiographic procedures.

3. To involve students in professional continuing education activities in an effort to instill a desire for life long learning.

4. To involve the student in the community we serve.
