Campus Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes
Unit Name: Fine Arts Assessment Summary Fall 2010-Spring 2011
What are the student learning outcomes in your unit? |
To develop expertise in any of the various disciplines of the Fine Arts. This includes both concepts and techniques. |
Which outcome did you assess this academic year? |
Our graduating thesis exhibition requires majors to exhibit and mount a “one person show” in the Savanna Center Gallery, as well as defend their work before a panel of professors and majors. Students are also required to complete A435 Art Theory in their Senior year. |
How did you assess their skills before, during and/or at the end of the semester/ academic year? |
Through individual grading of assignments as well as group critiques. Also, there is extensive one on one supervision during the course of all studio projects. Classes tend to be smaller than lecture classes, which allows for more direct student contact. |
Please summarize the data you have collected this semester/academic year. |
Our primary indicator for student success is the quality of their senior thesis exhibitions. All of our graduating seniors were able to engage (to varying degrees) in critical dialogue regarding the concepts behind their works, as well as create substantial works of art. |
Please describe any programmatic changes you have made or are planning to make based on the data you have collected. |
We are in the process of creating a BFA degree for IUN to give students the opportunity to seek a Fine Arts degree with more intensive studio work. We have added individual studio spaces for some advanced level students, and reconfigured a couple of courses to give Juniors and Seniors more individual attention. |
