Student and alumni groups at Indiana University Northwest are rallying to restock the shelves at area blood banks this spring with two blood drives, one sponsored by the Student Nurses Association from 12 to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 2 and the other by the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and Office of Alumni Relations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 4.

Both blood drives will take place in the Moraine Student Center, located on the north end of the IU Northwest campus in Gary.

Current statistics report that someone in the U.S. needs donated blood every two seconds and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed daily. A single donated unit of blood can help save up to three lives.

To sign up for the Student Nurses Association Heartland Blood Centers blood drive on April 2, visit http://tinyurl.com/SNABloodDrive. Or, call Annetta Hill at (219) 980-6600.  All donors will receive a pair of flip flops.

In addition, SAA members will be signing up donors on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 20 and 21 during lunch hours in the Moraine Student Center.  SNA members will be signing up donors on Monday and Tuesday, March 26 and 27 during lunch time in Moraine Student Center.
